Border Justice and The Temple. Zoom.

Tuesday, June 2, 2020 10 Sivan 5780

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Ever wonder about the differences between a migrant, an immigrant, a refugee, or a displaced person? What about the undocumented? What do these terms mean anyway? Join us as we unpack their definitions, rights, and international implications. Learn more about the Jewish underpinnings for their advocacy, and how The Temple supports border justice. Brought to you by Rabbi Sam Kaye, Trustee Cindy Zeldin, and Temple member/veteran humanitarian aid worker, Lorrie King. As a veteran public health and humanitarian response professional, Lorrie has traversed applied, academic, and philanthropic settings, and concentrated her expertise in gender, community development, HIV/AIDS, and refugee resettlement programming. In her latest post with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), Lorrie oversaw a $12M grants portfolio, that spanned 15 Native American nations and 22 countries, focusing on issues of water equity, restorative justice, food sovereignty, and community suicide prevention. Before her tenure with UMCOR, Lorrie was best known as the founder of 50 Cents Period, an organization formed in response to the reproductive health and social disparities facing women and girls around the world.
