On Rosh Hashanah, Jews around the world participate in the ancient ritual of Tashlich. We go to a body of water and symbolically cast off the sins of the past year to start the New Year with purity of heart. However, this is not the only time humans cast their “sins” into the sea. Every year approximately six million tons of human-made trash enter the water, posing health and safety hazards to the animals that call the sea their home. Reverse Tashlich adds a modern ritual to the Jewish tradition: a local River Cleanup.

We will be picking up trash in and around the river or a tributary to the river. Trash can consist of plastic bottles, bags, balls (of every type), toys, tires, car parts, building materials, and yes even the kitchen sink. WE WILL BE WADING IN THE WATER and/or walking along the banks.  Even a little bit of bush-whacking might be involved. Dress appropriately. Please arrive at 1:45pm for registration.
