Shabbat HaNefesh: Mental Health Shabbat & Shabbat Dinner / Discussion

Friday, May 24, 2024 16 Iyar 5784

6:00 PM - 7:00 PMChapel & Motor Lobby

We are wrapping up the Shabbat HaNefesh year with a reflection on the past year...and what a year it's been! How do we tell this story of grief and hardship, of unity and connection? What will set us up for pride, courage, and resilience? What story are we telling our children about this time?

Join us after services for dinner and discussion that will feature Dr. Robyn Fivush, who is the Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor of Psychology at Emory University, where she has been on the faculty since 1984.  She received her PhD from the Graduate Center of The City University of New York in 1983. She is a Fellow of both APA and APS.  Her research focuses on the social construction of autobiographical memory and the relations among memory, narrative, identity, trauma, and coping. She has published over 150 articles and book chapters, co-edited 7 books, and authored 2 books, including her most recent book, “Family Narratives and the Development of an Autobiographical Self.” Dr. Fivush is also a recent advisor to the Anu Museum in Israel on the subject of how to tell the Passover story this year in light recent months. She’ll be sharing tools and advice on how to speak to children and one another about this complex period in history.
