Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training is now available through The Temple! We have six Temple members and staff who are trained as facilitators and will be offering training throughout the year.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training that teaches parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors and health and human services workers and any other citizen how to identify, understand and respond to an adolescent (ages 12-18) who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. This training is open to those 18 years and older.

Our goal is to train 100 new youth Mental Health First Aiders at The Temple before Rosh Hashanah.  A Mental Health First Aider, also called a First Aider, is a person who has successfully completed a Mental Health First Aid training. First Aiders have empathy for people living with mental illness and substance use problems. Their increased mental health literacy enables them to identify risk factors and warning signs for mental health and substance use challenges, confidence to provide strategies to help someone in crisis and non-crisis situations, and knowledge of where to turn for help.

We are offering blended in-person trainings, meaning there will be 2 hours of pre-work required before the training to complete on your own, and then 4.5 hours (plus breaks) in person to receive certification. If you have questions or are interested in bringing one of our facilitators to another location or organization, please email Rabbi Lapidus. Information about Mental Health First Aid can be found at www.mhfa.org
