Depression
What is depression?
Depression is more than feeling sad or down, many people who have experienced depression describe a feeling of dread, hopelessness and lethargy. People may doubt themselves about the need for therapy, as they feel that they don’t have a “reason” or “reasons” to feel the way they do – they have a “good life” free of financial stressors, relationship issues, etc. But, depression can be influenced by a number of factors including chemical imbalances in the brain, particularly involving neurotransmitters (e.g., serotonin, dopamine). Other contributing factors include genetics, environmental factors and life experiences.
A number of well-known authors, actors, athletes and politicians have opened up about their struggles with depression. Learn more here.
