ShalomCare Drop-In Sessions

During this time of shiva and mourning for our Rabbi Sugarman, ShalomCare will be offering times for groups led volunteer clinicians for those who want to process their thoughts and feelings with others. While these are open, letting us know you plan to attend will help the volunteer leaders be even better prepared (and to share Zoom links).

Shabbat ShalomCare: Saturday Mornings and Afternoons

One Saturday morning and one Saturday afternoon per month, we will have Shabbat ShalomCare. In the spirit of Shabbat rest and renewal, there will be a variety of offerings open to our community from one-time programs to ongoing support groups. Registration is required so we can adequately plan. Click on the title below to go to the RSVP page.

Saturday, January 25

  • 2:00-3:30 PM:
    • Healing Through Creativity: Merging Art and Psychology for Personal Growth and Change - with Pamela Hayes Malkoff, MFT, LPC
      • Join Pamela Hayes Malkoff, certified Art Therapist and author of The Creative Cognitive Therapy Method, for a transformative workshop designed to help you reduce anxiety through creative tools and techniques. Discover practical methods that blend cognitive therapy with creativity, allowing you to process stress, build resilience, and find peace in your everyday life. Whether through journaling, visualization, or mindfulness practices, you'll leave with personalized strategies to manage anxiety. No artistic experience required! (and no special attire or materials required, either!)
  • 3:30-5:00 PM: Select one of the following offerings:
    • More than Massage: Caring for yourself amidst an overwhelming world - with Dr. Beth Krakow, Shalom Care chair
      • We are living in overwhelming times! For this reason, self care is not a luxury, it's essential! The term "self care" has become synonymous with massage, manicures/pedicures and buying "self care" items. What does it really mean, though, to practice self care? In this group we'll discuss this in greater detail. Attendees will participate in an interactive session aimed to educate but also provide guidance on what self care means for each unique participant. What does it mean for you? Join us to find out!
    • Open Our Hearts: Conversations for Grandparents - with Rabbi Loren Filson Lapidus
      • Designed by a Jewish educator and a Christian minister through Jewish Grandparents Network, this program is designed to provide a space for grandparents to reflect on what it means to be a part of raising Jewish grandchildren, whether they identify as Jewish or are from another faith background, whether they are being raised by two Jewish parents or intermarried parents.  This is a three-part class, January 25, February 22, and March 29.

This training does not require previous mental health training or experience— we encourage anyone and everyone to participate! Our goal is to cultivate an environment where we are all stakeholders in optimal well being in our community. The cost can be subsidized by ShalomCare. Questions?
